Hello fellow steamers , I am trying to find a very small steam engine for a project and looking for suggestions please ,I'm looking for a quality made engine 3" long or less and not more than 2" tall, please don't suggest any Chinese engines as I won't consider them. Thanks for any helpful advice you can give.
Do you have any of Ben Peaks engines?

No...I'd forgotten about him (hence this post) A good idea Tommy , but I don't see them for sale very often.
Do you need a single action or a double action or doesn't it matter?

I don't think it matters , the load will be very light, would like it to be smooth at low rpm/pressure ( A tough order for a small engine) thought about Saito , but all I've seen of them was to large.
Bruce - the small motors I know are from AULD NZ.
They are easy to remove from the base. The size is
about 2" x 1,25" and they cost around us$ 50.00 to 70.00
(ebay)
Have a nice day, Arnold

Dennis (Scorpion2nz) might still have abunch of those Auld engines and parts
It is too bad that Graham Industries stopped making engines. The HM1 might be a good choice if you can find one.

Here's an idea for you Bruce. Take the engine from a Jensen 70 or similar, make it horizontal
and low. Replace the spoked flywheel with a small thick marine style wheel. That'll keep the
height and length down. Should run with that mass spinning.
Maybe even a Jensen 85 or 5? I,m sure you could adapt it to your need.the little Bona of I bought from you at cabin fever a few years back might work too bad I won,t part with it

Good ideas all , I've considered the D2...not quite what I'mooking for, I would like a miniature Creters looking engine, I went in my mind all the Jensen variations and a #35 seems like I "may" be able to make compact enough. Still looking for the right engine. I really prefer a slide valve horizontal engine.I think Nick bought a miniature Stuart from George Brittnel that would do nicely 😉😄👍
