Closet Find Atomic Steam Plant.
« on: May 11, 2022, 05:19:34 pm »
This steam plant was in my dad’s closet since the mid 70’s and my closet in it’s box for the last 15 years.  He never played with his toys so it just sat on a shelf in the dark.

Consider not steaming that one and leaving it in that condition.

That's a lovely find - with a story...

That's the Linemar one, pretty rare, especially in that condition!

And, no, you do not need uranium to run it  ;)

Very nice, a time capsule!

I have to concur with all three members before me on this. Do not steam it, dust it off.
Linemar Atomic Steam Engines are rare, but not the rarest. In it's condition, it's the
rarest Linemar we have ever seen and that raises the bar on it. Plus you have the history
of it first hand. It has been in a time capsule long enough, display it in your home where
little fingers can't reach it and neither can direct sunlight. NIce.

I zoomed on to the burner tray and it looks round with a spoon like handle...my question is:

Did Wilesco "Ever" make a Meths burner?? All I have seen are Esbit trays.

I've never heard of or seen a meth's burner right from Wilesco. Just Esbit or electric.
I have used the esbit burner filled with Sterno Gel, the pink stuff, but it leaves a
crud in it that needs to be scraped out.

Here are a couple pics of the burner.  It’s just thin tin with Japan stamped in the middle. The fuel can also says Japan and fits nicely inside.  I would guess that possibility the fuel can came with it.

This is since many years on my search list - hard to become
in Europe. All we have is the ALGA from Sweden and Wilesco from Germany. The light show
adds a lot of fun to the Linemar plant.
Nice find... Arnold

How come there were no steam engines in my father's closet?
This one is a honey!

Regarding the fuel can and tin 'spoon with a handle'.  Judging from the pix,
this pair was also used for the MARX J-5322 steam engine.  As for me, I used
STERNO in the can.  Not a very hot flame, but it works.

Take care,
Wayne

That's a fantastic find. Did your dad ever run it. It looks brand new I have never seen one that nice. I guess I would agree with the others as far as not running it the Linemar boilers don't last very long at best. Enjoy it!
