Ken, you might not need those expensive plans, and possibly could keep both kidneys, if you take a slightly different path.
There΄s loads of bar stock drawings out there, and drawings is MUCH cheaper than drawings accompanied by castings.
J.E.Howell plans is definitely worth a look, and John-Tom (mainly steam i think) has quite a few as well, of which quite a few is free of charge:
