Hello,
I acquired a mid-50's Wilesco D16 that needs some TLC. The boiler is missing a bush which I'll have to replace. What has me stumped is what I am seeing on the bottom of the combination whistle and safety valve. It has no threads. I suspect maybe the bush is threaded on it and frozen to it but I'm not sure. Can someone please take a peek at the attached photos and give me their opinion?
Assuming I'm right, what's the best way to unscrew the bush from the whistle, remembering it's frozen on right now? My soft jaw pliers and even my Knipex failed to budge it. Additionally, pushing down on the weight arm fails to depress the plunger, so that seems to be frozen too. Do I want to take a torch to it next, or maybe some penetrating oil?
Always learning!
Paul
You are correct, the bush has come unsoldered and is now residing on the bottom of the whistle, clamp it in a lathe and remove it & resolder in boiler with care.
