I need to say thanks to a few folks who helped me get my second engine from MSM. Firstly to Nick who bought my vulpine triple enabling me to purchase this engine, secondly to Jim who provide lots of helpful advice and lastly to John@MSM who built the engine for me.
Initial impressions are very good and the casting quality and machining is first rate and much the same as the Tyne i bought before. Even with the customs and shipping it was still half the price of what Stuart would charge for a factory built 10H and that doesn't even come with reversing gear or a lubricator!! and this engine is all bronze too. Much as i like Stuart Models i do have to question their pricing structure!!

The base in the photos is just temporary and i will post more photos when it is mounted and hopefully a video of it on steam.
That's a good looking engine for sure - I would also love to have one someday. And I agree about Stuart - I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on a purchase of one at their inflated costs anymore.
Lovely Philip .... just lovely!!!
Fantastic engine Philip and as you said a great price compared to what Stuart ask.
Philip, I think you have landed a fine piece of machinery there. Love that it is all bronze/brass...never liked cast iron coming in contact with steam !!! I shall have to peruse their offerings!

I'll post up a video of it running soon.

I can't help thinking that Stuart are pricing themselves out of the market a little bit, especially on their lower end products such as the 10 series. They have now got a fair bit of competition from both Miniature Steam Models and PM Research, not to mention most recently domestically with Chiltern Model Steam. One of the things that Stuart are doing is re-releasing some of their older models like the Progress Oscillator which is very good to see and i hope they continue to add stuff from their extensive back catalogue.
Oh my that is a BEAUTY

Can't wait to see it running
Somehow the word SUMPTUOUS rings true for the photos of that engine!
That is truly wonderful Philip .... it runs just as good as it looks, which is saying quite a lot really!
Perhaps you should send a link to this thread to John@MSM in way of thanks.
Yes i'll have to email John the link Daniel!
It turns over real smooth, there is a slight bit of end float on the crankshaft but nothing major. It is very powerful like my 10H and i couldn't stop the flywheel with my finger at high pressure. I also love the fact i can adjust the cut off and make it work expansively which makes a boilerful last a bit longer at the expense of power.
I plan to get one of those PMR bronze flywheels to fit on the crank which i think will set it off.
Beautiful Philip, could not ask for more in terms of looks and functionality...ticks right over !!!
