• It sort of has the look of an early Fleischmann about it to my eye, but am otherwise unfamiliar with that brand.

• Thanks. One thing I for to mention is the generator is gear driven.  It has a lever to engage and disengage it from engine.

• That would certainly be a nice feature to have, and I can't think of any other set-up like that which I've ever seen, though it seems likely there must be something else similar out there beyond my limited knowledge base.
  
  Seems Nick may well be onto something with his good eye for spotting details and his Falk suggestion.

  Meiser & Mertig were a manufacturer/wholesaler of Physics and Chemistry teaching aids. They did make a small electric trainset for Bing, and had several Bing engines in their own assortment as well.
  Have not been able to find this exact engine, but am certain that someone way more knowledgeable than i, will be able to identify the details on this engine, and thereby the exact manufacturer...if it hasn´t already been done.

• It is a rare Falk, the more common Tin base though. They had this same model in a solid Cast Iron base.
