Jim, beautiful setting indeed. I have also bought one thinking I could use it as boiler feed pump but Jin advised me it would not be able to manage a 20 - 40 PSI pressure so it is currently sleeping on a shelf   

All right. Ignorant newbie question(s). Where do you get all that flashy brass and who is Jin? How do I find his offerings?

Bruce, you might try making the largest reasonable diameter drive belt pulley and replace the one that is there with at least 2X diameter of the original. This would give your belt drive a lot more leverage.

Every time I make something that I think looks pretty good, I see some of Jim,s work and then think to myself, well crap !

I have one of these and had every intention of using it on a boiler, got the same msg from Jin about pressure.  I spent about 30 minutes with it and from my experience with pumps on live steam locomotives and 1/4 scale traction engines I think (ie my opinion) the issue is with the check valves not seating well at all.  Basically that little pump should be able to pump at pressures to 40 lb.  I was going to replace all the balls and seats.   I had not tested the cylinder and piston but they looked tight.   Mine is on a shelf for now as several other projects are underway and will be finished before I futz around with the pump.   I need a real project for it.
