New toy arrived today
« on: November 06, 2021, 10:41:22 pm »
Picked this up from Ebay.  It is a double action steam engine.  Seems complete except for the crankcase cover.  There is a 2 piece aluminum base that someone added on but it looks like originally it may have set on a box type base. There does not appear to be any markings on the castings so I have no idea what company made it.   It runs very smoothly on air.  Just ran it for a minute.  The crankcase looks like is should have oil in it, I would guess about 1/3 full.  It also came with a flyball governor that was never completely finished.  the governor has a mount and does bolt onto the engine, but there is a line on the flywheel that looks like it was marking where a groove should be cut for the governor belt.  It is about 16" long and 8" high at the crankcase including the stands.  The flywheel is 6 1/2" in diameter and 1" wide.

neat purchase Ken , that governor has similarities to an Edison phonograph flyball governor.

Never seen before - is it production or scratch build?
Looks very sturdy - can we see a video under steam?
Congrats for this find, Arnold :D

I was thinking it was production but after looking at it some more the casting may have been from something else.  The steam cylinder and slide valve look home made and the flywheel looks like it is added on after.  It will be a while before I can steam it, but I will try to get a video of it running on air soon.
