Old model steam engine
« on: March 14, 2021, 02:04:12 pm »
All,  please take a look at the Ebay link below. I have seen at least 6 of these by now, each one is a little different.  Does anybody have any info on these?  The only guess that I have is that they might have been made as projects at a trade school, but that is totally a guess.

thanks

bill

these are home build by individuals for sure and typical for the 19th century
I don't believe there was a production because there was no market
maybe from old England - but who knows???

Arnold, the pictures are not coming through.  Could you post them directly?

I really suspect that these were some form of kit.  The flywheels and cylinders are all the same.  There seem to be 2 different bases and some have the cast cross-slide support.  Some have disc crank, others have arm crank.  Some have round rod, others flat steel.  There seems to be a grouping of some features, but each one is a little different.

Seems a bit big for a model, but I don't really know.  They are clearly individually made, but the castings clearly came from somewhere.  Would love to see an ad in a magazine.
