Has anyone ever been “steam shamed” which is what I call it. Essentially a friend, partner, spouse, wife, husband, family member may jokingly shame you on your fascination with steam engines and steam models?

I was recently told “Do I need to worry about you???” By my significant other. I mean I did turn an entire room into a steam room… but jokes aside, I think it’s perfectly healthy hobby.
Absolutely anything can become an addiction, even an obsession.
It's also pretty common for people who don't share the interest to think it is a bit much or a bit strange.
Try to be gentle with them, the poor souls, they just have no clue what all they are missing!!! ;c)
The question should be how many times per day are you "steam shamed"?
They just respond with Cat pictures or dont in the Family chat group at this point. Its more like "Topic Ghosting".
My friends claim steam vids ruin their youtube algorithm.
Not a big deal. Everyones the first to wanna see an engine run at any sort of even or group gathering. I try to keep an engine handy for these situations.
I have never been "steam shamed" and would never allowed myself to be...lol, yes, most of my family & friends tolerate my hobby & my wife is fairly supportive of the hobby even going to steam shows ect. Everyone has something that excites them that other people just don't "get" & that's OK. As you stated before...it's mechanical art to us.
I haven't been steam shamed but, some people who don't know the hobby, think I'm just collecting toys. They are correct to an extent until they see them in person. And especially when an engine is running, then the perception changes.

That’s awesome. Yeah I haven’t ever been ridiculed on a serious note, but, jokingly by others yes. “Do you need help?” “Do I need to worry about you?” “I don’t understand it, but okay”
lol!

Did they then turn to straighten up their Beanie Baby's collection?
I've had people look at mine steamers and shake their head and ask "Why"? I say why not.
Then I point at one and give them a run down on it. Age, where it was made, you know a little
history lesson. They always get poker chip eyes when I point at one from 1895. They just need
an education and a demo and then they're more understanding. Plus it beats the hell out of BBs.
Unless you're using them for skeet.

I noticed your profile says Michigan. I myself am from Michigan, but I reside in Texas.
People tend to think they are cute, until they find out they actually run on real steam!

Is that when they really take notice as to how cool they are?
Or are they mad because they lost the curl in their hair?
No real shaming here - unless I leave hobby things lying about the house. She makes pottery and quilts, and she’s always tending her flower gardens. I tinker with things. We’ve become more tolerant in our older age. In fact, she has laid partial claim to my Empires.
