Was out at my Grandpa's today and found this little guy... don't know if he was sickly or just too young to know any better, sure had a strong smell and was attracting quite a few flies

What a cute looking critter!
What a cute looking critter!
They don't stay cute long! My Grandpa is nearing 80 and this past spring a couple larger ones have buried half the contents of his shed. I wasn't allowed to "dispose" of this one (Boss' orders), so I released it a couple miles away near a small stream with woods and grass. Gave him plenty of survival chances, but he was acting a bit strange...
Glad you gave it a chance Nick.
Good on you to help the little guy.
Very cute. I've never seen one that young before. I. Must mention, however, that it is acting strangely
for a woodchuck and perhaps it's not well.
Hm. Coincidentally, yesterday afternoon I was in my basement workshop, looked up, and saw my cat looking out the window at a baby woodchuck/groundhog about the size of yours and right on the other side of the glass,. About a foot separated them; they watched each other for about a minute, then Chuck left.
Didn't have a camera handy.😞
Thanks, Nick. He's a cute little guy and good on you giving him a safer place to explore.
He was acting strangly, he should have bolted the instant he saw you , he wouldn't have been so lucky in this area 🙄
Yes I do believe there was something a little off with this one, but can't have him tunneling under the sheds... so if he makes it where I took him, that's good for him, if not, maybe he'll be another critters lunch. I have never seen a woodchuck this young, so had to get as close as I could. Besides groundhog, they are also known as "whistlepigs" and they will stand up on their hind legs whistling, to warn others of danger (have seen this a few times)
