As General George Patton has said ... “In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.”
As far as mass infantry is concerned that may well have been true at that time.
I have a couple of them myself, and they are the cat's meow for putting heavy fire, of a significant caliber, down range out to and well beyond 1,000 yds!
Celebrated, or rather HONORED, D-Day's 75th rather heavily here with several movies and documentaries .... and yes, a trip to the range as well!!!
Going to be gone a few day as I'm currently packing up to head off to Rendezvous .... Ah, the smell of Black Powder in the morning ... reminds me of ... History!!! Please excuse the poor paraphrase of a quote from the movie "Apocalypse Now"
Thanks Stoker, yep a lot of history in the Garand.
Have a good time at the Rendezvous.
Beautiful rifles, and great movies draining that .308

Thanks for sharing Lenn !
Thanks Jan and glad you enjoyed the vids.

Not bad for my old eyes.
Those young whipper snappers like Stoker, Jim and you would probably put em all in one hole.
Well we`re two peas in a pod then buddy.
Lenn, fine firearms indeed. I have a Garand myself and only shoot it rarely as it bothers a bum shoulder, but oh what a grand sound that baby makes!!! Pretty good marksmanship in your videos!
Rog
Thanks Rog, i don`t shoot near as much as i`d like either.
Enjoyed those vids Lenn

I wanted to swat that fly that was buzzing around you !!!!
The 30-06 is one caliber that I've never shot. I don't even remember knowing anyone here that even owned a 30-06.
I've fired countless rounds of .308 and the .30M1 rounds.
With our British history the .303 always rained king (and is still super popular and also all the wildcat varients) then we went to the NATO .308 round and then the NATO .223
Strangely the .222 is still a very popular caliber here, its slowly losing out to the .223 though.
Was a skeeter buzzing around.
The 308 is a good cal. almost same ballistics as the 06, the CMP special is a fine rife with new stock and barrel but the old beat up 06 is neat to as it was in the war and has many stories.
Haven't bayonets become shorter!
