Restoration started with a new rust proof base.
The plan is to leave what you see in the as last used condition, and to make missing parts and chemically age to blend in.
Good start, will the base be painted?
I will get your measurements shortly...
Thanks Nick for all your help on this one.
Base will be painted and I have seen just one version of same model on you tube where it is a light green something like APPLE GREEN
Next stage is to make the electrical switch and terminals

Measurements and closer pictures sent, hope they help!
[ Guests cannot view attachments ] this engine is worth of a nice restoration. Is this your first project? You have the chance to
go with patina and preserve the "age" - this is what I would do today.
Some years ago I bought the same Bing but the large one. It was terrible mistreated -
so I made best of it. The Dynamo, electric switch, water level, Burner, Manometer, Whistle
and many other small parts were missing. The housing had horrific orange paint! I had to
rebuild the parts from scratch - only the Manometer was on Ebay. The engine is a good
runner and makes a lot of fun - but it is no more original. I can live with it...

I like my Burner and Dynamo - both gave a lot of labor - the electric switch is easy to
rebuild. Good luck

Thanks for posting your picture - that is certainly a fine restoration.
First restoration and it will be a green base similar to yours

Electrical section parts now made, so onto the base next.
Very nice job there, well done!

Those look just like the original

Will you attempt to nickel plate the bare brass parts?
Thanks all for the kind comments.
Dull nickel plated Nick I think would be more in keeping with the apppearance with the rest of the engine. Kits for home use are available .
I am experimenting with brass tube and covering in solder to see if an acceptable dull appearance can be achieved.

What an interesting restoration project, congratulations for the beautiful work Stuart! I find these poppet valve Bing engines fascinating to look at. I have one (engine only) that awaits to be included in a steam plant again.
Hi Stuart.
@34046Any progress on this one?
