Help Identify me!
« on: November 15, 2021, 07:00:17 pm »
Wowsers.

This burner is new to me.

This train is as well.

seems to be o gauge. Has a vapor burner.  has a throttle? in the front of boiler?, with massive oil tank? and then middle has pressure valve and where its filled.  There is a foward reverse lever that changes valve operations.

This has a "super heater?"  the steam from the boiler feeds under the boiler and above the vaporizer?

its a bing or marklin? but im feeling bing as i touch it who knows its a gut feeling.

Thanks for help identifying this.

it seems fit to run I just need to figure it all out.  its 98% complete? missing a small cosmetic bracket for front bumper

Markings are 440 "greater britain"
it is a 440 i have to resolder the first "4" which i have the 2 wheel lead wheel set just fell apart.

My mom was the first to see this video.

Turn the audio down if you dislike foul language.

Ive set myself on fire so often I dont even flinch.  [and I proved that a few minutes later]

Enjoy.

Im pretty sure this is a bing.

just not sure which one!

Bing for Bassett-Lowke, 1920s/1930s I'd say. Great find!

Many many thanks.  I have since found 1 picture of it and tender on another forum and researched it.  I knew it felt like a bing but it wasnt because bassett lowke ordered it.  Even watched a few documentaties on youtube [joy of trains]? i think.

I hope to buy a propper tender but until then I will get it working.  The Vaporizer is very powerful im going to test a smaller burner on it first.

As always a running video will ensue.

I'd love to have an o-guage live loco some day....I've
got loads of track and would like to see it running next
to my electric MARX layout.

As to your powerhouse burner...Could you dilute the
fuel to lower the flame output to a reasonable level?
That's what I do if a burner is too powerful.  Try it.

I did try watering down the Denatured alcohol.  I need to find a proper balance, and I think im gonna rewick.  I read that 0000 steel wool works great as a wick and im considering for small one.  Problem is it is difficult to light/prime and goes out.

do u have a denatured alcohol / water ratio u could suggests?  I figure its about 95/5.

Are you or anyone else aware if I can feed the burner via a small tube from another resovior?  I worry height may be critical but It seems it has good pull power.  Did the tender have a resovior?  the filler cap has a breathing tube that seems longer than necessary as to why I ask.

The burner was heating the wheels b4 it rotated so I held off.    I didnt want to stress the metal.

Also the marx and lionel track work but it seems haplier on prewar lionel 0 gauge as its beefier and the wheel flanges enjoy it more.  [it seems]

Many thanks as always.
