Quite the undertaking Tony, but having perfected your methods on the tree damaged group railroad, I guess it was a logical next step to take those techniques back home!
Yes, and it is a lot easier cutting the batons than cutting the two sheets of 3/4" plywood that would be needed; and if you make a mistake often means you have to start again.

I know what you mean about the issues of dealing with sheets of big heavy plywood. I have plans to make a storage box for G-Scale (Fn3) rolling stock that is currently designed as 5 sheets of 5/8" A/C. Going to be a real bear to get them cut to perfection and fitted up. Will pretty well have to build the box in place, as once assembled I'm not going to be able to move it anywhere by myself. Not to mention the actual fear of screwing up on one of my cuts at ~$70 a sheet.
