Some Potential Projects
« on: May 25, 2024, 12:05:58 pm »
Here I hope to link some Potential Projects for the Hobby Machinist.

Unfortunately, the first to catch my eye and imagination, are not really suitable for the beginner, but are stellar examples of what CAN be done with patience and perseverance!

These are both extremely significant items from deep history, and as such, would make splendid displays and even possibly provide some enjoyable functionality too!?!?

The first project here presented is Watt's (maybe not his actually) original "First Micrometer", that launched a new wave of precision at a critical time in history!

Please note that downloadable plans are provide by a link beneath the video.

The second such project is the famous and ancient Antikythera Mechanism, having advanced complex gear trains long before it was previously thought possible.

Also this, the first in a series on building one from a clock makers channel:

Plans of various iterations and interpretations are available around the internet.

Wisdom is the domain of the Wis (which is extinct). Beauty is a French phonetic corruption of a short cloth neck ornament currently in resurgence..."
F. Zappa ... by way of Mary, the girl from the bus.

Very interesting Daniel, as a hobby machinist measurement and the history and development of it has always fascinated me.

How John Moses Browning and the other famous gunmakers before his time made such intricate measurements is incredible.

Don't know if you caught this other thread or not Jim, but an overview of "the Origins of Precision" can be found linked on there:

They have several other fascinating videos worth watching as well!
