Compound bows are rather like "contraptions" of some form, but they are amazingly capable, and having such a huge let-off from full draw weight is truly amazing from an engineering standpoint.

I have to agree, from an engineering perspective the compound bow is an amazing piece of kit! Interestingly in my home county, we have a domestic maker of compound bows who i believe were the very first in the UK (and the only UK manufacturer to date as far as i'm aware). They are still making new models to this day along with some very nice recurve risers and accessories.
