Giant Silkworm Moth
« on: June 19, 2019, 11:21:39 am »
Seems that winged insects of the colorful kind has gathered some interest here, so I thought I'd add a rather rare Cecropia Moth to the collection.

I was challenged to photograph this one early last month with my little pocket camera, as it was in a rather awkward position that was hard to approach, and it was quivering or vibrating at a rather noticeable frequency so that focus was nearly impossible.

It looks to have already had a rather hard life based on the fraying of the edges of its wings, and the seemingly well tousled "fur" on its back.

It offers impressive markings with beautiful yet subtle coloration, showing perhaps the most impressive feathery antennae I can recall ever seeing, and is the largest of N. American Moths.

I'm sure that a "younger" less beat up specimen would be more color and attractive, but this may be one of the only sighting of this particular species I've ever been granted, and certainly the only one with camera in hand!
