I started with wanting a CnC to be able to make platforms boxes, 3d relief stuff and ended up building a monster 8 foot x 4 foot cnc, mind you the one I had previously I didn't like which was in kit form.
Then I thought hey I don't want to look for little models and things to dress up some models I want to be able to make my own so I bought a 3d fdm printer.
That of course led to well I don't like the resolution it produces great for rough stuff and bought a Resin printer.
Sigh waiting now for the larger build platform to become available cause Im lazy and dont want to make things from many parts but want one big one.
In the mean time seeing as things need to be labeled and made to look nice I purchased a 7 watt laser engraver. Its 1000 mm x 1000 mm does a fantastic job but being the greedy little bugger I am I found I also wanted to be able to cut things.
So I have now put in a bid for a C02 laser cutter.

So far and I won't list the upgrades
CnC x 2
printer fdm
printer resin (waiting to be upgraded)
laser engraver
laser c02 waiting to hear if my offer is accepted.

My want list is a lathe and mill why as my CnC will do most everything I need, I guess its like the 20 bottle openers I have in various nooks and crannys.

Has anyone had the divorce ultimatum yet, its me or the toys?
If so what did you choose lol..

Yeah, that's gonna run it up there. I easily spend thousands per year although this year will be slower. My list of hobbies starts with dual sport motorcycles. Main expense the last several years has been tires, from 2 to 5 a year-premium rubber. Next comes toy steam engines, then hit and miss and throttle governed flywheel engines. Lastly come vintage Briggs and Stratton engines. New this year will be a Wheelhorse RJ model probably a 1960 or so when I find the perfect one!

No threats from the best friend yet, it keeps me in the shop playing a lot. She's happy-I'm happy!

You must have some great skills. I would love to see some pictures.

cheers
Tim

Bonjour Steve,
Passion unfortunately does not rhyme with reasonI do not build, I am a collector and I have e HUGE collection of operating steam boats who invaded my whole apartment and forced me to buy an extra room in my building. I don't dare speak money anymore.
Hopefully, my wife loved me but she becomes crazy and the current disaster prevents me tto go in buying... for the moment...

Cheers for that, it took a while to work out a good speed and feed to I could work with perspex and cut it without melting it and destroying the job. It opens up some nice possibilities of making interesting plinths for some of my models.

I have never tried to add up the cost of my hobbies. I have however, let my son know that his inheritance is in my basement, not in the bank!

Definitely a lot more fun playing with toys than collecting money in the bank

I was lucky that I already had a large collection when I met my wife, so she knew what she was getting into. Having three boys, there is a chance that one may get interested in the hobby, so I can blame the expansion on him  :D

Wow. neat stuff! I think a lazer engraver would be a great piece to own. Lots of ideas for that one. Thanks for sharing.
