Gil, it has been a week since we all gathered for some primo steaming....watching that video makes it seem like it just happened today.  Thanks to Simone for filming and putting up with such a "guy gathering"...

As promised.... here is the video for the 4th major stop on our road trip.

Enjoy!

Gil

Notice:  YouTube claims I have a Miranda Lambert track blocked in Russia owned by SME on behalf of Epic/Nashville and is blocking access at the moment... at least for some territories. I am working on it. Evidently there are 13 seconds of one of her songs that just happened to be on the radio when we were being filmed. You can barely make out the song at all and it has nothing to do with us. I may try to cut out the 13 seconds from 10:59 to 11:12. The radio is in it longer than that but they don't seem to have caught more than 13 seconds. I tried applying for a license for the song or album. Still waiting to hear    back. It would not bother me at all if the song played clearly and was an integral part of this video but it isn't even close to important here.
Issue solved by cutting out the 13 seconds in question. At least YouTube made that pretty easy to approve and get done. The dumbest thing is the song goes on for another 30 seconds or so after the part they asked me to remove. At 11 minutes in, you can barely here the part of the song they allowed to stay and you couldn't hear much more of the removed part.

How good was that to watch huh !!!!

This post will show a Jensen #51 Power Station that Charlie brought up from Texas and turned over to me to bring back this way for our friend Bill, it's new owner.

It is here at the Office of Steam for now and so far has gotten a good cleaning and a gentle hand polish with Simichrome and microfiber towels.

You can see in the before pictures it was in excellent condition as received.

Below are photos before and after.

Enjoy,

Gil

Sweet example of a 51 there Gil.

It amazes me the subtle differences among all the original 27 examples of the 51...little things like water fittings, built in pulley on the governor base, hour meter, water height gauge, boiler feed tube from water pump etc. (or not) etc.  I suppose as each was built over time, the availability of components was a factor and/or simple improvements in available parts and pieces. I love it!

It is sooooooo good to see such a rarely seen wonder as a Jensen 51. That it is going to Bill through Gil by way of Charlie just makes it all the more special.

But shouldn't the count on Jensen 51's be 28 if we count Rog's wonderful creation?!?!

I'll add the rest of it's history. It was purchased new in the mid 1990s by a well to do family for their young son. What a lucky boy he was! Fast forward about 20 years and this fellow had grown up and decided to sell it. Our own CrazyDoug got it from him. Eventually he passed it on to Charlie. Charlie took custody of it at Cabin Fever the same time Doug took custody of a Major Beam that I passed on to him. Charlie protected it well and delivered it to me in in Indiana and in great condition.

Regarding Roger's 2 creations.... They are considered by IndianaRog himself to be 51-R and 51-R2 (R stands for replica) So the count would have been 29 if they were included. Rog's examples actually have more lamps and generators than the production models and I think a couple other improvements.

They are impressive, but so big. I would have to take a regular 50 just for the size. I saw one on the bench at Jensen’s quite a few years ago and it was even huge on that.
Best Regards
John

The 5th and final major stop on our road trip brings us to the home of Brent (parallelmotion) and his amazing collection.

Brent gave us a wonderful guided tour through his amazing collection. We saw some of the finest toy steam engines ever produced and some great full sized original Stirling Cycle pumping engines from the likes of Ericsson, Rider, and Fanning.

Below you will see photographs of a most spectacular Stirling Cycle powered phonograph that was manufactured by Hispano-Suiza in Spain and acquired recently from Australia by Brent. At some point in the not too distant future Brent will produce and publish a video about this machine including a live demonstration. This will be worth waiting for!

I will publish a video of his equally spectacular Marklin Machine Shop.

Enjoy,

Gil
