Hi,
Yesterday evening when Mr’s B was putting something in the oven for our evening meal, we had a power cut! Fortunately, our hob is gas so, todays meal became yesterdays and yesterday’s todays. So, after finding my gas lighter (normally used for lighting boilers) the hob was lit, so far so good but it was beginning to get dark! Mrs B after looking in a cupboard found still in its wrapping a scented candle in a jar; a gift to her/us. I suspect it was due for recycling; as long as she can remember who gave it to us. Not being brave I would of course not suggest this to her. However, to paraphrase the late Ronnie Corbett it reminded me of a story:
In WW 2 Amos met Solomon in the street and after exchanging pleasantries Amos commented that it was getting more difficult to get food.
Solomon replied that he could help him out with a case of sardines at a modest price.
Solomon’s modest price of coursed Amos considered enormous, however after negotiation a price was reached and Amos bought the sardines.
They did not meet again for several months and Amos was a fraction of his former size and he yelled at Solomon ‘Those sardines you sold me gave the whole family food poisoning; the mother-in law died’ (plus side?)
What did Solomon reply? Answers on a £50 note to……
To continue my yesterday evening story: The lit candle was heavy on the scent but gave little light, then inspiration stuck (not that painful as it doesn’t happen often) my candle stick engines! Some might remember that I fitted a couple of oscillating engines to some chromium plated candle sticks bought in a charity shop. No, I am not getting withdrawal symptoms because the charity shops are closed, well not yet anyway! To display them I had bought candles! So, with the two candles lit Mr’s B could continue with our meal. We were all set for a romantic candle lit dinner when the lights came on so, we listened to the News.
Anyone still reading this drivel will have realised that I am waiting for the heater in the shed to take the edge off.
Take care and stay healthy.
Tony.
