Hi can I ask. I use a dehumidifier at home and was wondering if it will be safe to use the water collected for use in my steam engines. Any advice will be helpful.
If the tank is clean it would be safe, but mine has a slimy film inside, so I toss it out.

Thanks Nick my dehumidifier is new so it should be ok to use.
Hi Kevin
This water can be stored OK without Algae build up just add a couple of drops of Milton baby feeding bottle steraliser to your storage container my Steam model loco group use this also for storing rain water.
Paul.

Hi Paul thanks this is great advice.
Bonjour,
Be careful, demineralized water will tend to want to remineralize, which it will do by attacking the metal that receives it.
Do not hesitate to use tap water from time to time, provided of course if it is not (too) calcareous and completely empty the boiler when it is not in use. Personally, I put it under atmospheric pressure and put aside its filling cap to avoid the rising of lubricating oil.
If you have demineralized water add about 5% tap water and you are good to go.
