Hello everyone,
I have just acquired this old Marklin twin cylinder steam engine.
It will be delivered in a week or so. I am pretty much completely new to the model steam engine world, and definitely need some help and will gladly accept any guidance and information offered.
Can anyone identify the exact model and year of manufacture?
Is that the correct smokestack for this model?
From looking at other similar models, it looks like the 2 centre oiler caps are missing, and have been replaced by screws, or should it be like this ? ( If they are missing, does anyone know how I could find some replacements, same thing goes for the smokestack if it’s not the correct one ? )
Please forgive me if I don’t use the correct technical terms, after 38 yrs in the airplane world, I get it !! Lots of new stuff to learn 🙂
I will test all movement and valves using compressed air to start with, and after a gentle but thorough wipe down, cleaning and oiling, then depending on the linkages, and general state of boiler, fire it up on a low steam pressure for an initial test run.
It doesn’t look too bad in the photos, and I only intend to clean off any dust and dirt, and easily removable rust, and carefully polish it. ( No repainting or restoring to original, just accept that it has acquired plenty of youth !! ).
So, there we go, if you can offer any information, guidance or help in any way, I will be very grateful,
