Jensen #20 brass tag , Riveted boiler (Restoration project)
« on: October 17, 2021, 08:04:36 pm »
Hello fellow steamers
I picked this up 2 days ago in need of much work , I did a full "nuclear" restoration on her. it was missing the smokestack support, chimney, heater, pwr cord, rev spring, both springs in the SV & whistle were broken as well. I totally stripped all the hardware of the cast iron bases & bead blasted them & reshot them with the period correct Jensen dark blue I added two functioning oil cups on the engine & generator (which is now also a transmission) I fabricated a new smoke stack support (thanks Jan & Howard for your help) also a  smokestack of the correct size & configuration. it got a new heater & 3/16 AWG grounded cord. the 3" Riveted boiler is a Jed P vintage heavy duty unit. it runs very well at just over 1psi in either direction.

as picked up Friday evening

I worked all weekend on it , the restoration.

Thanks again for your help Jan , the chimney was surprisingly easy to make  & I was pleased with the smokestack support as well , I wanted to make another one after learning how to knock this one out 😊

Haha  :D  I don’t blame you there, just had to tease you about it… and to be honest, I wouldn’t want to see the price tag that this one deserves  ;)

This is my foray back into Jensen's after working on many Wilesco's over this past year...feels good to be back.

I timed it & it runs approx 29 RPM's in the clockwise rotation & 33 RPM's in the counter clock wise rotation which tells me it runs better counter clockwise (slightly) using the exact same air pressure.

Thanks Nick , the ol' 85 brings back fond memories , I doubt I could replicate that throttle valve again , I had a tremendous amount of time in that little guy , I'm glad you have it 😊
I will video the #20g on steam by Thursday.
