Disassemble Doll Ships Engine
« on: June 02, 2021, 06:33:03 pm »
Anyone know how to remove the pillars from the base, I am working on a project where I want to get rid of the cast iron base. Trying to do this so it can be put together again if need be.

I've done it before but it must have been 30 years ago, so hard to remember. If I'm not mistaken you will need to unscrew the posts of the top railing which act as nuts for the pillars. In that case you first need to anneal and straighten the ends of the wire/rod "railing" and remove it before you can remove the posts. Hope I'm remembering correctly.

That is what I was afraid of, thanks. This engine has been sitting on a shelf for years so plan to put it to work on a Coffee Pot Loco but the base is just too bulky.

Why not wait until sometime the rest of the machine comes running by somewhere (maybe ebay?) and then complete the machine?

However - and I speak from experience, this can take a very long time.😕

It would be a shame to ruin a nice original antique engine such as this. Better sell it and buy a suitable engine for your locomotive.

I agree with KNO3.I think it's a shame for any old original part to be lost like this. We are talking about 90 - 100 years in this case. But everyone can do what he wants with his property. I just think it's a pity.

Hi,

I totally agree with Jurgen and KN03, you have a beautiful and valuable machine on you hands, don't waste it.

Maurice.

The reason I asked about how to take it apart was so that it would not be ruined and could be put back together again so lets not get our knickers in a twist.  :)

All good. I would only have found it a pity if the machine part had been irretrievably lost.
