Jensen 70/70 BB live steam engine
« on: November 30, 2019, 06:23:24 am »
This is my newly finished Jensen 70/70 BB live steam engine, most of this was brand new construction, with the left engine being a little older, it has had only 3 firings to make sure all was well, the firebox started to discolor after the 2nd firing so I decided to give it several coats of VHT "Burnt Copper" paint to make it look good for years to come. each engine has had work done to them in the form of drilling out the stanchions & putting dust sealed raced ball bearings (2) in on each axle shaft, each engine has its own separate throttle control, the boiler has one of my special pressure gauges installed  0-30 psi or 0-2 bar reading, the safety valve lets loose around 27 psi, the are 4 drive grooves in each engine to run accessories & with the advantage of bearings in the axle...the loss of power from friction is greatly reduced. this plant sets on a plinth that is 13 5/8 X 9 5/8 and weighs approx. 5 lbs. the chimney stand has a lug built into it to keep the chimney in place when running. there is a special 70/70 ID tag on the rear. this is nearly all Jensen hardware excluding the pressure gauge & bearings, even the plinth is a repurposed #55 base that I cut down for this plant, there are a few screw holes that are filled in. do to the nature of the  #70's engines to completely drench the drive axles...it is recommended to put a drop of WD40 on the inward side of the bearings after each run, not so much to lubricate...but dispel any water from the bearings.

A rather long video...

A fantastic creation Bruce!, i really like the angled steam lines!

Reminds me a bit of twin prop airplane with the two engines side by side!

Bruce, you have given the venerable Jensen 70 a whole new outlook.  That both looks and runs like a dream.  Very well done sir!

Yes Nick, it jumped out of the gate pretty strong, the last 8 seconds are what counts though...
I didn't want people to think, nor am I trying to make them believe that this is a factory Jensen offering, most people will know, but...50 yrs from now when I'm long forgotten people might say "who the heck was St. Paul steam ?"
thanks for the nice comment though.

As long as I'm able (& still interested) I'll be making things, its deep in my blood now & I'd rather make challenging new things than anything else right now.

And now for sale on eBay!

This is going to make a great Christmas Present for the lucky winner.

I hope lots of folks will bid on this.  I am proud to have a number of Bruce's creations in my collection.  Top quality builds all of them.

Good luck with the bidding!
