You might consider adding about 5% water to your meths to calm that down a little. Also, don't fill your burner all the way to the top as it does heat and expand the fuel, so if you start out full, you will soon be a bit over-full. I generally fill that kind of burner full and let it set for a minute to soak up the fuel well, then turn it over and pour out whatever seems excess before lighting it off.

That sure is one heck of a powerhouse for a Stirling!
