Hi Jim,
The cast iron shelf brackets arrived today which I ordered off Ebay.
here is a before and after picture of my modifications. the new length is 80mm high up the wall and 65mm protrusion.
I will enlarge the hole for the rod once I have bought a new length of rod which is the right bore for the pulleys I already have. I think they will look ok . The shaft will be fixed quite high up the wall and the scale will be OK.
