Whoa Nick .... Your opening photo is a total jaw dropper, never knew there were that many Buckman models out there.

Seeing that tripod engine run was a real treat, especially considering the huge opening into the boiler and the cork as safety valve. Guess they weren't any too afraid of steam toys back in the day ... heh !?!?!?

A proper safety valve would have probably doubled the cost of some of their “half-dollar engines”  :D

The boiler is a bit soot-stained on this one, but the engine itself is in very good shape and a smooth/quiet runner  :)

An Impressive collection, Nick!  Good job with that gasket cutter, I need one.  I like the idea of cork safeties, I wonder what the actual "pop" pressure would be.

These are only running on 2 to 3 psi (some even less), I imagine at higher pressure if they popped, you’d take a pretty good spray of hot steam/water to the face  :D

Thanks Charlie, this will be an all Buckman weekend for me  :)

This guy is cooking on some very low heat as I type. Has very nice paint that I want to keep.

Very cool.  I bet most of these are being steamed for the first (and probably the only) time.

I really liked that little vertical.  Amazing how well it runs after 100 years.

Your assistant did well but he needs a Cowboys jersey to replace the Vikings one.  :)

Yes, I really don’t see the need to run them too often as long as I have a good video of them. Just ran the third and I’m 3 for 3 on great, nearly silent runners!  ;D

I have another boxed vertical coming up this weekend that is in very good condition...

Haha, my mom’s the Viking fan, they let her down every year 😂 😂

@Inge watch from 2:50 onward, I pulled the cork out twice. This is probably only about 2 to 3 psi. The second time I moved the whole engine a little bit trying to pull the cork out, I’m thinking as tight as I have them in, it would take quite a bit of pressure to blow them out...

Great video Nick. I wonder if the corks are swelling in the hot moisture. I seen you grabbed some at hardware.
