Bay window caboose for sale!
« on: June 22, 2020, 06:41:52 pm »
I found this one at an estate sale. It is located south of Atlanta(safely far away), and is going to be bid on all weekend until Sunday evening. The agent said some time would be allowed for the move.
I've done some research on this, it is and old transfer caboose for Southern Railroad, # X533. Weighing in at a staggering 65000 lbs and standing 17 ft with a length of 38 ft. It looks rough cosmetically, with window sashes rotted out and rust. The interior looks ok, and looks like it is wired for 110. Still has the old coal burning stove inside. It would make a wicked awesome guest house, especially for kids(or grandkids!) Or an even better man cave.
You will only need 2 45 ton lift cranes(or 4 really- 2 at pickup and 2 at deliery), 2 semi with flatbeds(one for trucks, one for body), and 2 pilot cars. Don't forget to secure your oversize load permits, and plan your route to avoid the hotspots of the rebellion.
Today, my hopes of ever owning a railcar were smashed on the rocks of my rather insolvent white privelege.

Always loved going into these that people have fixed up, but I don't think I'll be able to park one in my own yard...

I think that we're finally entering into the realm of the impractical here. 😞

Too bad; it looks great.

Instead of a Rail Car I opted for this beast. I could probably push the Caboose with it. It will hopefully arrive at my Ranch next week. Shipping cost was $10.00 per mile (which included the permits).

Now that's a proper toy! Can i borrow it? Although the $10 per mile to PA and back would be a little prohibitive.

There's a caboose in the yard of a house just a couple of miles down the hill from me here. Doesn't look like they do anything with it, but it is at least minimally maintained.

That Cat is some serious business .... what is it that you need it to do for you Charlie?

Building two 30 acre lakes to start.

Building and maintaining firebreaks on all our perimeter fence.

I also have an experienced operator that I will lease it to for contract jobs.

A couple of thirty acre lakes is serious business also, and that along with 3200 acres worth of firebreak makes for full justification in my book!

NICE TOY Charlie!!!
