G'day all, I have taken more than a few days to build the base for this Enjomor 6cc Hit & Miss Engine. Really happy how it turned out. I can't get a spark from the plug. Has anyone got any thoughts on what to check out to see why I'm not getting a spark? I've pointed out in the video a few things where I'm stuck.

First thing I would check is to see if you have continuity on the wire that grounds to your cylinder head screw. Perhaps paint or a poor contact at the connector is keeping the system from having a proper ground, which would prevent the possibility of having a spark.

I can't work out why on that reed switch there's a black and white wire soldered onto one at the bottom and one at the top and the red wire is soldered to nothing.

I agree with Stoker about the ground wire, try changing its location.

Not quite sure of what I'm looking at, but at 2:12 in your video it looks kinda like there is a snipped off red insulated wire hanging down below your reed switch contact bracket. I don't suppose that could actually be what it looks to be, but if it is, perhaps that has something to do with your lack of spark?

I've found out that the red wire does nothing for this model, its for wiring into a Hall Sensor Daniel.

For that Reed switch to have any function at all, both the upper contact and lower contact must have continuity to the coil/battery system so that when the points close current is sent to the spark plug. Perhaps the Reed switch is supposed to rely on its mounting to the engine as being one of its continuity contacts through the system, rather than the original snipped off wire, but perhaps paint, or other circumstances may be making that connection less than adequate to its purposes?!?!

On another note, I question why there would be need of a Reed switch on an engine that was being fired by a Hall Sensor, thus it seems incongruent to me that the snipped off red lead (if that is in fact what it is) had anything to do with connecting the Reed switch to a Hall Sensor.

G'day Daniel....there is no Hall Sensor on these engines just that contact switch.

Yes, exactly, but in your prior post (three or four up) you say that the clipped red wire was supposed to be for a Hall Sensor. Or perhaps I misunderstood you?!?

In essence, you either have Reed switch or a Hall Sensor to make the contact that fires the spark plug, but you have no need of both, so what the heck is it with that clipped red wire???

They are just reusing the same three core wire for this engine Daniel, I've been told its "extraneous".

If I can't get it started I might go down the road of retrofitting a Hall Sensor unit and put a wheel with a magnet next to the flywheel as some guys on YT have to me that they have gone down that path.
