How to save some money for a M92
« on: September 12, 2020, 11:04:49 am »
Bonjour,
As a lot of you guys are happy with the Microcosm M92 Hit & Miss, I have decided to buy one, but it is a little bit expensvive for me.

I have discovered that it was commonly sold on auction in eBay by the two Jin's sellers with a very lo starting price.

I tried to bid several times, but so far without success, the auction ended either overnight or during my working days. So I stayed that day in front of an auction ending at 5 PM ... and I finally won! I save about 15% on the price of Jin's site.

I would receive it on November... I will share with you the next steps with videos of course  ;)

Looking forward to your videos, I’ve picked up a few good ebay buys from Jin in the past as well.

Yes, once the market gets saturated with a new model...the price usually drops to what I'm willing to pay.

Bonjour Bruce,
With the auction game, the sellers are doing funny, they are smart so it is not obvious to save money  ;)

Bonjour,
Just to make you laugh... Chinese customs refused to send my package and returned it to the sender ... I have saved a few euros, lost already several weeks, will I receive my engine...?  I hope that my adventure will not turn into a series with many episodes before its epilogue, happy I hope.

Did you live the same "experience" ?

Hello, I am sorry to see these, we have analyzed it, it is very likely that different fuels are mixed with carburetor. (We use gasoline test)
Suggestion: Please remove the speed limiter. Start the engine deeply, and adjust the carburetor when the engine is started. Reinstall the speed limiter after it reaches a better running speed!

Bonjour Jin,
Thank you for your reply. What do you call the "speed limiter" ? is it the governor ?

Hi Raphael, After starting it first try gentle adjustments to the needle valve. I have had to open it nearly a full turn on occasion. Once running, I open it slowly until it is running better. Once it warms up a little more I can close it slowly then move it just a little at a time until I have the best run position.

Are you mixing a little oil with your fuel?
Before the run.....
Do you tip the engine on it's nose to put a couple drops of oil on the piston skirt and bore when the piston is at top dead center.

You can also put a couple drops of acetone in your fuel to help it vaporize better.

Bonjour Gil,
Thank ypu again for your precious help. Yes, I have added a drop of oil and also oiled the cylinder, there is no bad friction.
I like your idea to add some acetone, will test it and let you know what happens.

Last episode,
Gil, I have added a drop of acetone, there is some progress but it does not want to run more than several tens of seconds.
A degree of difference on the needle changes everything, it is too sensitve... And I have tried to open or close the needle hundred times...

Bonjour,
Thanks to Gil's (and Dominique's) advice, my M92 can empty its fuel tank  ;D

Do you change a little bit the setting of the needle valve when the engine becomes hot ? I feel like obliged to close it a little bit to start the engine then reopen it (a few degrees) after a little while.

And as the screw on the bottom of the cylinder is M3, corresponding to M3 oilers I had also bought to Jin, I have installed one and used my steam oil.

I go on ignoring why it does not accelerate...

I am glad that you got it running. I have my spark plug gap at around 0.6mm. I have also found that different fuels (lighter fluid and ordinary petrol work best with slightly different settings on the carburettor needle valve. On my engine, the setting is around one quarter of a turn out from being screwed in.
