Some states (e.g., NY and NJ) require individuals to track and pay sales taxes for online purchases where tax was not collected by the vendor. NY/NJ each had an alternate calculation to estimate the tax, which I'm sure was far lower than what should have been paid but made the math easy. This past year NJ eliminated that alternative, so we now have to keep track of everything. Still easy math, but it's a lot more $.
