IndianaRog and the Temple of Steam Website to be no more
« on: October 28, 2023, 11:13:29 am »
As many of you know, my website has kind of been in decline for several years...in part because I sold off much of my collection and didn't really have much to share. You Tube videos got a shot in the arm!

Web host "Webs.com" pulled the rug out from under me about a month ago, literally losing 100% of my IndianaRog website in a sale of their webhosting business to another company. I also maintain a website for a local conservation club I am part of and it too was lost in the transfer.  Conservation club is about to have annual renewal and I felt obligated to get something back up and going on their behalf.  After more than 15 hours of pulling hair out and speaking unspeakable things...I got the conservation club website back up and going, but realized there was no way I want to invest probably dozen of hours getting the IndianaRog website going again, as it was about 6X the size of the conservation club site. Life is too short!

I kindly received a 2015 archived copy of my IndianaRog website files from another forum member, so I can pick and choose files from a long list.  If there is anything you really want from that list, I can try to make a copy for you and send, but I won't be putting it in a nice tidy website form...that ship has sailed!

Meanwhile I will play with my steam toys and not computer files and templates.....

Rog, looking at your collection years ago got me going on steam. Thanks for putting that information out there for so long, I'm sure I am not the only one who bought a Jensen because of you haha!

The Temple of Steam was my go to place for info and how to do fixes. It helped me along on this
steamy journey we all travel. It will be missed but what the hey, we still have you. Thank you
for all you've given us.

Well Rog, as they say the only constant in life is change, so we now go through yet another change. How many times I visited "The Temple" would be hard to say, but it was very many, for very many reasons. That it was both enjoyable and informative there can be no doubt!

It was stumbling upon The Temple while looking into steam in my early addiction days, that really gave me direction and got me going down this road in earnest, and pretty much it was your friendly and helpful manner, when I reached out to you with questions, that ruined me to the level I find myself today. In other words, you were a truly great mentor, and might I say friend!?!?

It was you, that first sent me off to Steam Forum land, and all the wonders of that formerly hidden world that is now such a major part of my life.

I also got my first Jensen because of you, and many more besides, and I've even gotten Jensens from you, during your great downsizing.

The Temple will be missed, without any doubt, but as said above ....... we do still have YOU!!!

So sorry to hear this Roger, your site has been a true "Jensen Bible" for a lot of people, myself included.
As far as Jensen collectors go, a well written, highly inspirational, and very educative landmark on the Interweb has evaporated...
Cheers

Hi Rog, I can say the bit of sadness I feel was fully anticipated given our knowledge of recent loss of a once good website host.

It was you who put in the time to build it all over a period of years and I can't thank you enough for your efforts your friendship and fellowship.

I fully agree with everything written in the previous posts.
Be well and be blessed.

Thank you,

Gil

Thank you for all your hard work, Rog. I had referenced the Temple many times over the years, especially the Jensen part! 😁😁

Just echoing the sentiments of the others here, Rog. Your website, and the meticulous work you put into it, was a major influence on me as well. Thank you for all the years of joy and helpful info you provided.

I still have the zip archive file of Rog's website available here:

http://doug.sdf.org/files/temple_of_steam.zip

It's easy to view the local archive of the website on your computer if you wish. It's enclosed in a ~160M zip file and I wasn't having much luck uploading it to the forum, but maybe it's possible for one of the admins with better access than me to upload the file.

Try this:

For some reason these new web browsers seem to think every data stream needs to be encrypted.

Well yes, that link did download to my computer, and took a while to do so, but I have yet to find a way to open any of it!?!?

Did you try right-clicking on the folder and select "extract all"? That worked for me.

No, I did not, nor would I have a clue to have done so. But thanks to you, now that I have, all kinds of stuff is popping up, so clearly the download worked.

After clicking on a few different choices, some of which seem like pure code like non-sense, I clicked on "Jensen51replicabuild" which took me to the "newspaper" looking background stuff, where there was a "Home" button to click on, which then seemed to open the Temple of Steam website as I remember it!

YIPPY!!!

Thanks all for making this retrievable, even for a compuker illiterate!
