For those of you who know Stuart engines, is this a product of Stuart? It is not a S-50. Here is the eBay item number.

If it is a Stuart, it is not a model that I'm familiar with.

I saw this as well,and although it certainly looks like a Stuart at 1st glance...the proportions seem a little cramped to me. It maybe a Chinese knock off, but a nicer one.

It is Stuart. Stuart had a line of several engine kits for beginners, called Progress engines. They still sell one of the two oscillating cylinder kits and "STP" is cast under the base casting on this too.

Wow Brad .... Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I for one was unaware of this line of Stuart engines and am definitely glad to know about them now. I recall seeing one of the "Undertype" engines before, but don't think it was identified in any way.

Cool looking engine, and it must be pretty gratifying to have Stumped the "Experts" with that one.

Thanks Brad, this is completely new to me, and I thought I knew most of the Stuart line, even some of the older ones now out of production. I will be on the lookout for these in the future!

Hi Brad,

A few years ago I built the modern Stuart Progress Engine for a friend and with it came a facsimile copy of the original construction booklet of 1913. The six engines described shared many components, so to make an engine you have to keep having to keep moving from page to page, which was a little confusing, so I made two photocopies of the booklet, cutting one up to just have all the information on the engine being built in one place. I checked my complete copy and what is referred to as the High Speed Horizontal Steam Engine or SH1 for short looks exactly like the model on eBay.

Here is another rare Stuart Turner engine. A BB that stands for "Ball Bearing." Look at the pics carefully, as the aluminum cover has been butchered on a grinder. It is meant to be a high speed engine for driving pumps and generators.
