My wife has a collection of about 100 engines, 10 or so are Marklins, her latest were a 4160 and 4150 with a generator. I am laid up for a few days after some neck surgery. I decided to look through her Schiffmann book on horizontal engines. It seems like they did not make that many horizontals. I also noticed that the stack on yours only appeared on one engine, a twin cylinder. That book is really the only source I looked at and my conclusion is the following. The boiler shape, stack, and weight look like a 4158. Except the cylinders on the 4148 are back to back not separate. The 4127 has the cylinders and generator arrangement as yours, but boiler is entirely different. The firebox under the boiler has some attributes of the 4158 but without ladders and rails. The rear of the boiler has many attributes of the rear of the 4148 ie placement of manometer, whistle, and filler hole. But that is not unusual, I think stuff was likely moved or just put on at the factory in different places. Now the 4127 were made from 1921 - 1931. there was one version of the 4158 was made from 1910 - 1912. Another was made from 1919 - 1923. With the overlap of the later 4158 and the 4127 it appears there might be another model number that was a hybrid of the 4127 engine / generator and the 4158 boiler with a less outfitted firebox.
So much for my guess. Sure is a nice runner. Gen needs to get her 4150 and 4160 going someday. Looks like just some gaskets and a new filler cap. Has the burners but one is missing the two burner inserts. The manometer on the 4160 is not functional, if not leaking it can stay on until I can take it apart. I should be able to fix or make the parts.
All in all a really nice engine.
