I finally got my oscillating cylinder engine finished so that it runs, just in time for my model engine club meeting on Saturday. This is running on 2 PSI of compressed air.

Bonjour Brad,
Well done ! Running with 2 PSI means you made a great job on this machine, only several of mine are able to do it.
But don't forget that the final test is the steam one, even if I have no doubt it will pass it
Since I run my engines on steam, I intend to install drain cocks on the cylinder, as it makes life easier.
Hi Brad,
Since I run my engines on steam, I intend to install drain cocks on the cylinder, as it makes life easier.
You might consider fitting a warm up valve, which is what I often do. It is very simple, a valve is arranged that connects the steam passageway to the exhaust passageway in the port block. When open it allows steam to bye pass the cylinder straight to atmosphere, in doing so it allows any condensed water and old oil in the steam pipes to exit and it warms up the engine to reduce further condensing. In most cases the valve need to be open only a few seconds before straight steam comes from the exhaust.
Take care Tony.
On a larger size engine, that might be easy, but on smaller engines, such as the three Stuart No. 10’s that I recently built, I. Don’t think that would be easy. I sure wish the Coles’ 1/8” globe valves were still available for uses like this.
