Someone’s Jensen 50 is coming along nicely!
« on: February 02, 2023, 11:05:25 am »
Went to Jensen’s today to get a 3” boiler and see Andy. I didn’t realize how long it has been since my last visit. Tom Guy was still there and he’s been gone for 7 years. I saw someone’s 50 on the bench. I’m not sure who’s it is but they live in Florida. Some other 50 parts too [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

I screwed up the pictures on the last post. The thumbnail is the engine going to Florida.

Well, John did say in his first post of this thread that the 50 was headed to someone in Florida 😉

I did say "maybe 2023".
Many months back I was told it would take a long time before they could even start the project.

Being a small shop with Andy Guy the only truly season employee...it did not look good at the time.
I hope they can continue. They are a mainstay in the hobby.

Andy did say that he was mostly working on the 50s. The collectors are were the business is at now. The kids aren’t really interested in this kind of stuff anymore. I told him it’s like Corvettes, the older guys love them and can afford them. I hope that you love your new engine!

I wish they could get these toys back into schools… I know Erector sets are making a comeback with some of the “STEM/STEAM” (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) programs, but I doubt Jensen could keep up with supplying more than a couple schools with current employees…

I couldn't agree more Nick.  That's one reason why I go into the local elementary schools for the 4th grade curriculum energy unit with a Jensen and a tabletop high-voltage demonstration unit to discuss the different forms and uses of energy as well as electricity safety.  Somewhere along the way we as a society just cut it out of the curriculum.

That’s great that you are able to do that, I have 3 kids (2nd, K and Pre-K), and I’m sure soon that I will be giving them a few suggestions for science fairs  ;D

I think that it’s really “Employee”. I’m pretty sure Andy is the only one doing any fabricating.

He’s 58 and I don’t see how they can exist whenever he hangs it up eventually.
