In a New York minute , it'd be neat if Jensen made this.
Yep, a pretty cool looking engine and an interesting concept, but he definitely needs to lose any direct Jensen references before attempting to market such an animal. It may be okay to state that he is using some Jensen stock parts, though even that may cause trouble, as I can't imagine Jensen would be any too happy selling parts to somebody who is looking to compete with them on the sales of finished engines.
I'm trying to figure out how he's going to make any money at $120 with all the customizations??
Neat engine but I agree, Jensen would be crazy to sell parts to a competitor but maybe this would give them an idea for a new model!
He even went as far as to show the Jensen Model tag with their address on it. In the last computer image on the left.

Kind of my thoughts as well Nick , I don't believe he could make them for that, & Yes ...we all know that Cedge would come down hard on that (most likely) & I also thought that it would be a neat new product for Jensen as they aren't doing anything new currently. I give him credit for creating something interesting.

the weak parts are the flywheel & piston assembly bracketry, be really nice if they were cast.
He also mentioned working smokestack, so not only is he modifying/flaring out the bottom of the boiler, but I imagine he's also taking about adding a center flue through the boiler.
Well....it looks pretty good.
Needs to modify a few things for the sake of the Jensen name.
It would be great to have a good looking vertical that held up better than the lovely Wilesco D455. I would buy it for under $200.
Yeah I know first hand how it goes using the NAME. Neat looking engine but I'm like Bruce the cylinder mount looks realy light weight to me.
Having just spoken to this user, as well as a couple of other users with similar ideas, I think (HOPE) they finally understands that as sweet as an idea for an unauthorized pseudo Jensen might seem , they will not be allowed by Jensen to offer it for sale. The Jensen family has already scheduled discussions with counsel, concerning potential legal options, should these problems persist.

I agree .
I am but a simple neanderthal steamist, yet even I can see potential for trademark/logo infringement. But if the brandname/logo/trademark is not involved , where is the harm ? Please tell me if this is also an issue of patent infringement.
Hypothetically, if a person buys a steam engine, and would subsequently nickel plate it , would the buyer therefore not be allowed to resell the item under the ‘first sale doctrine’.
Excuse me for asking , but all this talk of counsels and legal options has me a bit confused.
I don't see why there couldn't be a Mutual collaboration between this builder and the Jensen manufacturing company (should they both agree) , having visited the factory earlier this year , I could see a strong influence of Stuart Turner on Tom Sr's early work , correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jensen buy parts off of Wilesco. . Lineshafts , base pans....etc for "their" - engines ?
