I thought this would be a fun project. Once I figure out what it is, I’ll try to restore it to its original condition. Will more than likely not run it under the Christmas tree.
it looks like Bing track 0 - you have to make two oscillating cylinders, pistons and rods
and a burner. A nice work for the next one or two weeks - haha

Thanks for the identification. Now that I know what it is, there seems to be many variations. I need to find an example of this particular version when I get to decals and paint. This will take a few weekends. I will be curious to see if it fits 0-27 track.
I now have cylinders. Today’s project is the burner. I need a close up of the cab roof so I can see how it should fit. The immediate goal is to get it complete and functional, afterwards I will tear it down for restoration. I am searching for a picture of this particular model so I know how to complete the paint and artwork.
It’s 42 degrees in the shop and thought I would do a quick test on steam before tearing it down. It has piping leaks from a previous repair(s) attempt.

Flames are a bit high, would perhaps add a little water to the methylated spirit...
The smoke stack and steam dome were shattered and split. I silver soldered thin shim stock to provide support on the underside of the two pieces. The smoke stack base was missing chunks, but I was able to use most of it. The stack itself was a piece of tin bent with pliers and jammed in. I was not sure what it should look like for this model so I improvised. It needs a little more finishing, but I liked the result. Time for the roof.
The cab tin work was a bit time consuming. I think I have all the pieces except the whistle. It’s time to tear it down. The frame and cab will be black and the wheels will be red. The under carriage is worn so it will need new bronze axle bushings.
It’s interesting that everything mounted on the boiler meant a new hole through the shell.
I've been following your rebuild thread and it is pretty interesting.
Thanks for the pix. Nice job on that nasty cab and you came up with
the cylinder/piston parts quickly. Did you make them or were the parts
in your 'parts' bin just waiting for you to buy a basket case. I look
forward to see it running on O-guage track - two rail to look best.
I'll buy a loco like yours someday, for sure an O-gauge one. I hope
I'll do it justice. Anyone want to swap one for an original working
Elektro engine? Ah, I'm dreaming again. Besides, the plumber gets
paid first. So far I'm in deep and getting deeper.

The cylinders and pistons were made from scrap brass. I used pics from the internet to guess the piston diameter. I had brass shim stock the same thickness of the tin to make the missing parts for the cab. It looks like someone started to restore it, then lost the parts.

Made new axle bushings for the frame and did some painting. Steam pipes are soaking in vinegar.
I used calligraphy paint for the stripes. Time to assemble.
