My New Wilesco

  Some Pics. of my new Wilesco D455 engine. While perusing Wilesco's website, I noticed that they offer engine assys. at reasonable prices in their spare parts section. While I have been wanting a vertical engine, I did not want another boiler , so I bought the engine only of a D455 vertical steam plant. I think this is a really nice engine , especially with it's cast metal frame. I wanted it mainly to power my little workshop , which has 14 machines. This engine easily powers the shop with just a crack of the regulator valve , but it is using 60 psi of steam to accomplish this.

Congratulations!

That is a very nice engine, and now part of a quite advanced setup it would appear.

Would love to see a few pictures of the entire plant, and perhaps even a movie of it all going :)

I will post some more pictures . I am learning to use my new smart phone , but at my advanced age , I have been using a Jitterbug phone and find it a steep learning curve to take pictures, send them to my computer and post them . It is going to take some time to do the video thing.

Here are a few more pictures. This plant is just a conglomeration of stuff I have put together. The boiler is a babcock type From Clevedon Steam , I got from England . Much of it came form PM research , some from Ebay and some homemade.

The D455 is a favorite of mine, very nice plant setup you have , plenty to keep ones interest.

Thanks for the additional pictures...

That sure is a nice setup, well done!

Will keep my fingers firmly crossed, that you get your new phone figured out, as it would be a real treat to see it all in motion :)

I had a D455 before and I really liked it. I sold it when I took a break from the steam hobby after it became to much of an obsession. I just want a few engines to play with this time around. I do want to get another one and a good boiler for my PM Research #7.

I was wondering about your boiler after seeing it in some of your other posts. It looks a lot like a Stuart 500 series but not exactly. I’m glad you said what it is. I was looking on their website and it didn’t say if it has any circulator tubes underneath. Is it a pot boiler or does it have the tubes like a Stuart? I thought before that you may have made it, and I was going to compliment you on it.

      The boiler is from Clevedon Steam in the UK . Clevedon calls it the Pisces, and it is a Babcock style boiler very similar to a Stuart 501 with 5 tubes . The big difference is that the smokestack comes through the boiler itself without a smokebox . While I really wanted a Stuart 503 , I balked at the price . A nice thing about Clevedon boilers is that they come with gas burners, pressure gauge , sight glass ,  valves and pressure relief valves . Just about everything you need, but I did add the whistle . Just add gas and water . The price is not bad, but you have to consider the exchange rate and horrendous British postal rates.  That thing will really make a lot of steam .
