Modified Mamod SLK1 loco
« on: April 09, 2020, 01:18:22 pm »
I bought this a year or so ago. It was built already, but unfired. I did a few tests and realized it wasn't going to run as it stood, so I ordered the parts from dreamsteam and set it aside. Fast forward to now, when I finally got around to the mods. I added a displacement lubricator, a Goodall valve for topping it up, meths burner to replace the foul esbit, a steam regulator, and an updated safety valve(20-25 psi). This is where the kit form comes to fruition, for not a single rivet had to be drilled out! After install and bench test I wrapped the steam line in cotton insulation, laid out some rail, and fired her up. She came to steam(using hot water) almost immediately, but run time is a bit short- maybe 10 mins but I wasn't fully topped off so it wouldn't prime. Next ime I'll top off after light up. All in all, it was a fun easy project with very few hiccups. The regulator and lubricator did need some modification for good fitment but work well. Now, this is a kick in the pants to get finished with the garden railway. Thanks- that was what I was looking at. The wiring is kicking my narrow butt. Hmm, is it too late to sell my Lecce's and switch over to all live steam?🤔
