The 1751 Machine that made Everything
« on: June 24, 2024, 11:43:19 am »
Here is a video that suggests the level of impact on the world, of the Industrial Revolution, and identifies what is perhaps the single most important machine that kicked it all off!

The lathe has often been called "The Mother of all Machine Tools", and for very good reason, as well featured in this video.

I think I linked to another one of these "Machine Thinking" videos in another thread on this board. They have produced several other videos as well, all worth the watching IMHO.

Daniel, you may have gotten me into trouble, we will be in Paris for a short time this fall, somehow I have got to convince my better half that this is an important stop in our schedule.  :)

Always glad to get a fellow steamer in trouble with their better half Frank!   ;c)

Perhaps you could beguile her with an offer to show her some of the sources for all the modern conveniences that she now enjoys. That and a promise of a fine meal afterwards might just get you in the door for a few minutes!!!

You might want to try Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris.

I know there are some special engines in there.
