I have a number of bow saws myself and regularly use a couple of them as replacements for chainsaws. Actually cut to length all my firewood of limbwood size this last winter with a bow saw and really haven't fired up a chainsaw in a decade or two because a good bow saw makes far less sawdust from a far thinner curf and does the job near as quick without the noise or hassle of gas, oil and servicing.

Even have a small packable model, similar to the first photo that I use out camping sometimes.

I must ask, what is holding the winding toggle lever on the "Spanish Windlass" tensioner to keep it taut, without spinning out, in the second picture?

Thanks Daniel, that one has a wire on it that just stays wound at least so far.
It also has a metal cutting blade in it.

Here's a part of my herd of bow saws. These are all commercial made units, the orange one being a Swedish Sandvik brand and the olive drab one being military surplus from some country, likely not the US, but maybe?

The little ones are just limb trimmers, but they work well for cutting up the smaller stuff as well.

I do have at least one other that I keep out at my rural property, as wood is the only heat I have out there, burning mostly Pinion Pine, which is real hard for a pinewood, so a good bow saw is a must out there too.

This last one was made by a fellow "named" Iron Hand, which I won at a Rendezvous quite a few years back. I've used it a fair amount while out camping and it has proved to be a very capable little saw, much like the beauties that Lenn has made.

Well, obviously again I can't get two photos up in the same post, so here is that smaller handbuilt bow saw that I referenced in the prior post.

I agree Lenn, the fellow that built it did a real nice job of it, but it wasn't me. I won that one as stated in the earlier post. I suspect that I could build one, but doubt that I'd do half as well as you have with the several nice ones that you created.
