St. Paul steam visits jkbixby (Larry & Janet)
« on: March 11, 2023, 06:14:26 am »
I started this post partially on another thread & thought I would give it its own thread, Ang & I had a very nice visit with Janet and Larry at their lovely home in Gahanna Oh. We also met Maggie the fluffiest cat I've ever petted. I toured Larry's very fine collection of steamers upstairs (while Ang & Janet visited in her sewing room) and then we went downstairs to the " train area" where over half the basement area is home to a nice layout of live steam locomotives ,cars & scenery & buildings. It was a great time with gracious hosts and Ang & I enjoyed it very much. I came home with quite a few engines that I will enjoy as time allows, Larry takes very good care of his engines and I'm looking forward to running & filming them in the near future. 😊

my haul of Bowman steam engines, there were also 4 older Jensen #25's that will be getting a looking at & restored.

Bruce, seems you had not only a good visit, but a haul of Bowmans to bring home with you.  Next to Jensen's, the Bowman's were very well built of stout material..I have had a few and loved them.  Being a train fan myself, I am envious of Larry's setup...wow!!

That is great Bruce!! I visited Larry’s place shortly before stopping over to your place. One day I need to do the same without the kids so I can stay a little longer and maybe run a couple engines  ;)

I'll ditto John's post, while also admitting to some serious envy at all you folks who live near enough to make visiting practical.

Janet and I both really enjoyed Bruce and Ang (and their new puppy)'s visit as it was the first time face-to-face after a lot of corresponding in the past. It was a hard decision to give up the Bowmans (and the Jensens) but I'm happy they're going to a good home and someone who will, and can, restore them as good as it is possible. As Bruce can attest the steam room is a small 10' x 10' area and really overcrowded so this helps free up space and get some others out of the closet and displayed - I just wish he'd brought a bigger vehicle....lol! All in all a very pleasant visit.
Regards,
Larry

Sure sounds like a nice visit, and what an amazing haul of Bowman engines, congratulations!
Will be looking forward to see your upcoming Bowman and Jensen updates.
...and Larry, please do share some details on that railroad if possible.
Cheers

Just a quick update on the railroad(s). Both upper (O scale) and lower (live steam) just went through a complete rebuild being converted from a duck under to walk in folded dogbones which are much easier on the back. I'm just testing the track work right now but will be starting the scenery in a week or so. As soon as I get a "basic layer" of scenery on the live steam so it will look halfway presentable I'll make a video or two for the forum. Thanks for the nice comments about them.
Regards,
Larry
