I wouldn’t recommend the “safety valves” for much over 5 psi, but that is what they were designed to use. Most of the oscillators blow the cylinder away and release steam before the cork pops and the bigger engines have weighted safety valves. I wore safety glasses (probably should all the time when steaming) and after hearing a cork pop and shoot into the ductwork, I’m glad I did!
Most of these runs were at 1-3 PSI and flame was very carefully controlled, so no real risk...
I haven't seen you with Safety goggles - ha ha - but you're right with old engines you always have to be careful.
