This is a great rig and I decided it is time to polish what needs polishing. I got it at the Cabin Fever Auction some years ago.
I know it is in great shape as our friend Monte consigned it to the auction but it will still get a hydro test before a steam-up.

I believe the heaters are for 220 volts but not 100% sure of this. Tonight I wired it up for a test with a meter. Each heater draws 8.2 amps and about 940-960 watts. Together they drew 16.4 amps and over 1900 watts. (This was just beyond the rated limits of my Kill-a-watt but it was up to the task) This was on 120 volts ac.

It has a nice brass hand pump a little bigger than those available from PM Research and Stuart. There is also a great little Worthington Duplex Pump made from Coles Power Models castings. The immersion heaters are beasts.

After all the polishing, my hands are beaten and sore. Nonetheless a very enjoyable clean up.

Here are some pictures.

Enjoy,

Gil

Wow, that looks great polished up  8)

Looks like it would be a nice boiler to have. Hope to see it in use after the hydro-test.

In better lighting I found just how much of a beast this thing is.

The heaters are made for 240 volts and 4,000 watts..... each!

The threads are 1 1/4 NPT.

I hope it proves usable on 120 volts.

A beast to be sure ..... but of all the folks I know, you certainly have reason to have such a large capacity boiler in house. I can picture the house lights dimming as you power that sucker up however!

if you are going to run them at 240v then the supply cord will need to be bigger, and your standard outlet will probably not hold up.
And please cover those terminals when running.

Quite right, Dave. The plug and cord you see is only for 120 volts.
We have no standard plugs like you see here with 220 to 240 volts available.

It would require using an electric clothes dryer cord and plug.

For now I will test it on 120 volts to see if that will provide enough heat for demonstrations.

I tested the safety with water pressure and it lets go at 50-60 psi.

Gave it a test this evening. Set up outdoors with a 125 years old 1/8 hp A J Weed piston valve engine that is pretty well worn (steam leaks right through even when not moving)

More to come soon.

Then I hooked it up to a 1/4 hp Sipp horizontal engine.
