It is set up all year long, buildings stay out all the time and are all wired up with lighting.  I have the lighting tied into the low voltage path lights that are all around our back yard, so at dusk it lights up, and stays on till dawn when it all powers down.  So even when no trains are running, the railway is all lighted up.
