No longer yard art…
« on: October 06, 2021, 08:13:01 pm »
Grandpa says this plow was brought to the family farm in 1955 when his dad was renting the farm out. The guy took the coulters off, used them on another plow and left this plow on the edge of the woods. In the summer of 2005 my grandpa hauled it down to his place and put it in a rock bed as “yard art”. 16 years later I told him I was going to free it up and see what it could do. For being so rusty, sitting over 65 years, missing coulters, very hard/dry ground and 4 foot tall weeds it didn’t do too bad  :D  Don’t have any pictures from the first plowing (wasn’t pretty anyway  :D ), but I ran out of ground, so I ran a drag over it and plowed it again  :D  These were taken half way through the second plowing

I believe the plow is a #52 John Deere made between 1934 and 1947

I’ve had my fun, now I have to scrape the wheels clean to come back up the driveway…  :D

Wish I had the rest from Great-grandpa’s sale, there were 15+ two and three bottom plows in better/complete condition and nearly all of them went to the scrap man at the auction in ‘05 :-\

This reminds me of my own Grandma's farm auction , I must have been about 15 and my cousin was 13 , we decided that we could afford the old Case DC tractor as it was hovering around $35-$40 (scrap price) must have been around 1977 , well...we started bidding on it and was carrying the bid up to $50 when my uncle turned around and realized what we were up to & then came over to us and quickly told us to STOP bidding on the tractor. We never put any though into where we were going to store this as the farm was being sold as well...our young brains didnt think that far into the future 🤔😄👍
