Most of my steam engine stuff is kept inside a glass curio so I get minimal dust tissues but I also dabble in O. scale model trains in the basement and the situation down there I use a small Industrial vacuum shop vac with a bristle brush and that tends to pull off any heavy dust on things without damage fragile parts!!!
Sounds exactly like my collection upstairs but down in the basement I consider the dust to be just "weathering" on my HO, O scale 2 rail and G gauge live steam layouts - saves me a lot of work but I do occasionally break out the kitchen basting brush if it starts to really get heavy.

I dust the item but never the spot it sat. The dust outline lets me know where it came from.
Thanks, that is a line I will use next time my better half complains about the dust. :)

Well....I was watching this lot for a while then had a senior moment
and made lunch.  Not the first time I've a brain fart moment.

Well, there is always something else coming up...to help me forget about
the ratty DK I just bought.

Good luck, especially with the Empire engine.....Damn, I missedd it!

Nice haul of External Combustion Engines you scored there, Gil!

I've always wanted a nice Vacuum Rotor Engine, and have bid many a time, but usually come in as First Loser, so still don't have one in my collection. Odd that you seem to have acquired several SEPA or PMR burners without the engine models that those style burners correctly go with?!?!

Looks like you'll have some fun times ahead, getting to run that pride of engines!!!

Here's a nice box lot I won at an auction on Saturday and picked up yesterday.

Daniel, I keep a log book and it's been every two years.
The last couple of years I made an effort to keep the door of my steam room closed when I wasn't in there and to never open the window, it did make a difference as the clean up wasn't as bad or as long.

I had to take photos beforehand so I knew where everything went back 😊

Now that's good thinkin' there pard!

Must admit that I am seriously impressed with anyone who actually takes on the Quixotic task of dusting any kind of exposed and detailed collection.

Brave souls without a doubt!!!

Looks to me like the logo oval has casting texture and isn't smooth as would be left by a mill cutter.

Perhaps it is the paint that has the lumpy texture that I'm seeing although I think a see where the paint is chipped away, and the casting texture seems to show there as well?!?!
